Ingredients:
- 4 slices of bread (stale or a day old)
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 sachet of ground cinnamon
- Fresh milk
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Bread:
- Take your slices of stale or day-old bread and cut them into small, bite-sized squares. The staler the bread, the better it will hold up during caramelization.
2. Make the Cinnamon Sugar Mixture:
- In a small saucepan, combine the water and brown sugar. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved and you have a smooth syrup.
- Add the ground cinnamon to the syrup and stir well to combine.
3. Caramelize the Bread:
- Heat a large non-stick skillet or pan over medium heat.
- Dip each piece of bread into the cinnamon sugar mixture, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
- Place the coated bread pieces in the heated skillet in a single layer, ensuring they do not overlap.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the bread pieces are golden brown and crispy. Be sure to keep an eye on them and stir occasionally to prevent burning.
4. Cool and Serve:
- Once done, remove the bread pieces from the skillet and let them cool completely on a wire rack. They will continue to harden as they cool.
- Serve your homemade Cinnamon Toast Crunch in a bowl with fresh milk for a delightful breakfast, or enjoy them on their own as a crunchy snack.
Tips:
- You can store these caramelized bread pieces in an airtight container for up to a week.
- Feel free to adjust the amount of cinnamon to suit your taste.
